Our Junior Fire Department is a program designed for young men and women between the ages of 14- 18 who are interested in the fire service. They meet at the fire department on Monday evenings at 7:00 to learn and train in fire and life safety. They support the department on incidents in non-hazardous roles. These Juniors become firefighters when they reach the age of 18.

The Seventh Annual Fair Grove Fire Department Junior Firefighting Challenge

The Junior Firefighter program at Fair Grove is always looking for ways to help our members increase their skills and stay interested in the fire service. We have noticed that any time we add a level of competition to junior training by timing an evolution or making a game out of memorizing equipment or fire behavior, the juniors get more interested in what they are doing. With this in mind, we are proud to host the Seventh Annual Fair Grove Junior Firefighting Challenge. We hope this will challenge your members to learn the firefighter skills they will need. If your department has participated in the past, thank you for coming and I hope to see you again this year.

We have four events that should test your member's skill, teamwork, and knowledge: Initial Fire Knockdown, Search and Rescue, Equipment Identification, and Master Stream Assembly. I know how membership can go up and down over time, so the events are designed for different numbers of competitors so that regardless of how many members you have, your department can compete. Initial Fire Knockdown and Equipment Identification are designed for single competitors, the Search and Rescue for pairs, and the Master Stream Assembly for teams of four.

We have made a couple of changes to the rules this year due to safety and competitiveness concerns. A donation of $5.00 per competitor per event is requested from all the participating departments to help with the cost of trophies, etc. If your department is interested in attending, please contact me either by mail, phone, or e-mail by August 8, 2009. Feel free to contact me with any questions and hope to see you there.
